Our Story

In 2024, my partner and I decided we would take a half-year off from our life in Sydney – we travelled Europe in a motorhome with our 4 and 6 year old children.

Whilst climbing was not the pure focus of the trip, researching, locating and visiting kid-friendly crags became a way to curate the route.

I meticulously cross-referenced the information I could find: thcrag.com, 27 Crags, climbing blogs, online topos, climbers we met on the road, Facebook groups, articles on climbing sites and physical guides when we could get our hands on them. Wherever possible, gaining knowledge whilst contributing to the communities developing and maintaining climbing areas.

After each climbing day out I found myself back in the motorhome, super psyched from the day, taking studious notes  and ranking each crag. I reflected on how much I benefited from the information that others have generously shared and also the absence of any dedicated resource for climbing families. And so I resolved to create a resource myself.

What this site is: sharing our experiences in a practical way – to help inspire, inform and enable parents to rock-climb – where children are part of the adventure.

What this site is not: we don’t want to share every detail and replace community topos – these local resources are always linked and should be invested in and referred to for the latest updates.

Every crag we’ve included has been with consideration of its popularity, environment and suitability for families without causing overcrowding or undue risk. There are a few crags we’ve left out and a few we’ve included to actively warn against, due to things like mega choss… or copious cat pee!

For the sake of enabling parents to keep doing a sport they love, for families to feel comfortable taking space outdoors and to not be held back by the unknown.
