Crag Summary
This was our first time ever climbing on limestone… we went on to climb 5 months of limestone throughout Europe and this was THE slipperiest rock we touched (until it came full circle and we had our final crag in les Calanques). Perhaps this is due to the tunnel route we chose being novelty-popular and it being shady N-facing!
Despite this, it was still a fun day-out – a gentle leafy approach through the forest with these very cool ‘rock castles’ emerging from the trees. From my understanding there are 5 ‘rock castles’ – we climbed on ‘castle 4’ and the approach/accessibility of the different ‘castles’ vary. We chose number 4 because the topo was clear and the tunnel looked fun. A lot more time could certainly be spent exploring the rock castles – and determining which ones make the best spots for quality climbing as a family.
- Style: single pitch sport – there is a via ferrata on castle 4 as well.
- Parking: 50.22340, 4.91137 – further details on parking and access rules found on the Klim – en bergsport federatie website.
- Topo and Approach details: We used the crag which has all climbs listed but is partial in terms of full topos/photos. I could not find information on how/where to get an official topo…
- We visited on: Friday, 16th August 2024
- Who else was there: alone when we arrived, a group of 4 arrived as we were packing up, a bit of activity around the rock in general – hiking and via ferrata

Wow Factor
Novelty factor of rock tunnels and caves. Also the discovery of these ‘rock castles’ in the forest
Approach
A 30 min walk through the forest, mostly flat until the end with a sharper incline
Shade
N facing so very shady on and off the wall
Playtime Base
Some big drop-offs to watch out for but really fun environment with the caves
Harder Climbs
Some very stiff routes according to the topo – not sure about quality!
Kiddy Climbs
Some easy routes on paper but the ones we tried were suuuuuper polished!
