Crag Summary

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This was our first Croatian crag and very conveniently on-the-way as we crossed from the border from Slovenia. I had hoped to climb at the Krankenhaus area but we got a bit lost in the trees on our way and ended up at the far-right Krulčići area – newly developed in May 2024 with five easy lines. Given that this was perfect for the kids and it was a really really hot we opted to stay in this spot however this crag definitely offers a lot more.

Once at the crag you can walk along to the other areas with a little bit of bush-bashing and there are some really impressive steep lines and cool tufa features to be found. Grades from 6s all the way to heaps of hard 8s climbed by the likes of Jakob Schubert and Adam Ondra. It is largely south-facing so if we’d been able to avoid such a hot, sunny day it would really have upgraded our outing.

  • Style: single-pitch sport
  • Parking: 45.39262, 14.06833
  • Topo and Approach details: the Crag provided detail information
  • We visited on: Saturday, 21st September 2024
  • Who else was there: one other couple in the car park, but sensibly they were avoiding the sun!

Nearby

Lots more crags in the immediate area (including Buzetski Kanjon and Kamena Vrata) the Istria region in Croatia could easily serve as a climbing holiday destination in itself. I am sure Istria also offers many cultural and touristic sights but our schedule pulled us South and East – next stop Plitvice Lakes National Park and then Paklenica for more climbing.

Wow Factor

Rating: 3 out of 5.

A long sweeping cliff with peaceful green views.

Approach

Rating: 3 out of 5.

15 minute walk uphill for big legs, with the littles we took a bit longer. A bit tricky to navigate through the trees and end up in the right area.

Shade

Rating: 1 out of 5.

South-facing sunny sun sun! Bushes and thin trees give some respite at the base.

Playtime Base

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Safe if a bit slopy and narrow in places – dirt, trees etc.

Harder Climbs

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Kiddy Climbs

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Whilst the rest of the crag is mainly hard, the far right area is perfect for kids. Only downside is that it is quite separate to the rest.
