Sedlo Pass

Crag Summary

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

The setting is stunning, the parking super duper convenient and there are boulders galore – including easy lowballs – even some with grassy slopes to walk off the back. We had an absolute gem of day – recovering from a big family hike the day before, playing around on the rocks and ducking into the motorhome for snacks and cups of tea.

The only warning would be to look out for loo paper… clearly some visitors think big rocks make convenient spots to hide behind for a dump >_<

We are not bouldering connoisseurs so it is a little tricky for us to comment on the quality of the harder and/or highball problems (contributing to the rather ‘on the fence’ rating) – any experienced boulderers that have tried out Sedlo, please do pitch in!

  • Style: Bouldering
  • Parking: 43.09679, 19.05530
  • Topo and Approach details: Montenegro Bouldering App
  • We visited on: Sunday, 13th October 2024
  • Who else was there: we were the only ones bouldering, national park visitors coming up and down the road, a few other camping vehicles parked up and a few semi-stray dogs at sunset.
  • Camping: you can vehicle camp right there (or slightly further up at Sedlo pass for even better views) a ranger came round in the morning to collect a small fee (bring cash).

Nearby

The most beautiful mountains we’ve ever seen. Hiking to the summit of Prutas was an absolute highlight. More popular hikes to be had from the starting point of Sedlo Pass.

We drove into Durmitor national park from the west via the town Plužine (most people come from the East from the town Žabljak). The reason we drove in from the west was to check out the Piva crag (read more on the review page but we don’t recommend it!) however we’d recommend the detour for some beautiful views of Piva lake and huge stretches of Durmitor (including a night full of stars) all to ourselves.

Žabljak town made for a lovely pit stop with camping services options, nice eateries and the Black Lake for a very kid-friendly, scenic (if touristy) walk.

Wow Factor

Rating: 3 out of 5.

It would be higher if we were anywhere else in the world… but the hiking summit views really blow your socks off in comparison.

Approach

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Park right in the middle of the boulder field.

Shade

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

The bigger boulders provide shade (so long as the sun is not right overhead), elevation means air temps stay cool.

Playtime Base

Rating: 3 out of 5.

A grassy haven, if a wee bit spikey – just do a loo paper check before the kids roll around.

Harder Climbs

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Lots of hard routes according to the topo.

Kiddy Climbs

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Some fun easy, lowball blocks to play around on.
